ABOUT DIVERSITAS 2019

Diversitas is a financial knowledge symposium bringing leaders in financial planning and wealth management together with career influencers and diversity and inclusion thought leaders, along with university and high school students who are exploring the industry and profession, to build professional hope for young people and career changers in an industry that is working diligently to be fully inclusive. It is brought to the community by the Financial Planning Program in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration.

    WHO: Career influencers (people who advise and encourage both students and career-changers about career choices), AND financial advisors who are the best source of information about the career and attributes that make it a great career choice, AND university and high school students who are interested in understanding the financial planning profession and the wealth management industry.

    WHAT: A daylong symposium to examine how to attract more women and people of diverse backgrounds into the financial planning profession and wealth management industry.

    WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019
      Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Program: 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

    WHERE: Jean Hower Taber Student Union, (map) on The University of Akron campus. Address: 303 Carroll St.

    COST: $35 for financial advisors. Free for career influencers and students. Includes free parking, lunch and materials.

    CONTINUING EDUCATION:
    • PK-12 teachers are eligible for free professional development contact hours (5.0 hours)
    • Financial professionals may be eligible for 1.0 hours of continuing education

 

REGISTRATION

Career influencers - Free

    Who are career influencers? Teachers, guidance counselors, curriculum directors and others from schools districts. Academic advisors, admissions personnel, faculty and others from higher ed. Community leaders of all stripes.

Students - Free

    University and high school students who are interested in understanding the financial planning profession and the wealth management industry.

Financial advisors and financial firm employees - $35 each

    Who are financial advisors? Anyone who is employed by a financial advisor, RIA, broker/dealer, custodian, bank, trust company, or other financial firms.

Mark Tibergien, Pershing Advisor Solutions CEO, on the need for financial advisors to address underserved communities.

Prior to joining Pershing in 2007, Mark was a principal at the accounting and consulting firm, Moss Adams LLP, where he was partner-in-charge of the Business Consulting group, chairman of the Financial Services Industry group and partner-in-charge of the Business Valuation group. Previously, he was president of a nationally recognized bank and business training and consulting firm, a principal in an investment management and business valuation firm, a writer for a financial trade magazine and a general assignment newspaper and radio reporter.

Racial Diversity in Financial Planning: Where We Are and Where We Must Go
Released in 2018, the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning’s thought leadership paper outlines actionable solutions for industry stakeholders to create a more diverse and inclusive profession. The report was developed in consultation with the Center’s Diversity Advisory Group, and is based on findings from the Center’s comprehensive research study on the underrepresentation of blacks and Latinos in the financial planner workforce.
