Allied Health Care Administration Fundamentals

To help meet the increasing demand for leaders in the health care field, The University of Akron launched a new degree in early 2019 — the Bachelor of Allied Health Care Administration.

The Bachelor of Allied Health Care Administration enables students new to health care as well as those already in the field to gain the skills necessary to move into supervisory or managerial roles in a variety of health care settings. Administered by the School of Allied Health Technology, most of the coursework is offered online.

Professional Preparation

Allied health care administrators work closely with clinical and administrative staff as they process, analyze and report information vital to the delivery of health care. They are often responsible for the overall management of a facility, such as a hospital, clinic, or longterm care facility. From medical terminology to ethics, from basic pharmacology to database management, from compliance to accreditation, a student preparing for a career in allied health care management at UA will receive a multi-disciplinary education.

A comprehensive program, the Bachelor of Allied Health Care Administration will prepare you for two valuable certifications:

  • The American Academy of Professional Coders’ (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) national certification exam.
  • The American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Certified Coding Specialist—Physician-based (CCS-P®) national certification exam.

In addition, the School of Allied Health Technology offers a new certificate associated with the Bachelor of Allied Health Care Administration — the Health Care Services Coding and Reimbursement certificate.
