Criminal Intelligence Analysis Fundamentals

The University of Akron is the only state institution in Ohio training aspiring criminal intelligence analysts. Our students focus on analytical and technical courses with a curriculum that provides them with a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge and applied skills for work in contemporary criminal justice agencies.

Our criminal intelligence analysis majors take a broad core of courses, in addition to specifically focused analytical courses:

  • Sociology
  • Political science
  • Criminal justice technology
  • Geography and planning
  • Geographic and land information systems
  • Computer information systems

Hands-on experience

Students move from theory to application with hands-on experience in:

  • Criminal intelligence analysis and forensic labs
  • Urban learning labs (utilizing downtown Akron) for field observations
  • Professional labs — completion of at least one internship is required
