Emergency Medical Services Fundamentals

Emergency medical technicians and paramedics provide vital attention to sick and injured people in a variety of situations and locations. The University of Akron and Akron General Medical Center have teamed to offer this 60-credit hour Emergency Medical Services Technology degree.

  • You will first spend 10 months studying pre-hospital and emergency medical care at Akron General Medical Center, making you eligible to sit for Ohio certification as an EMT-paramedic.
  • At The University of Akron, you will augment your skills with coursework in:
    • anatomy and physiology
    • medical terminology
    • pharmacology
    • safety and management topics pertinent to emergency responders
  • Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs

Career Services is located in Student Union 211, with another office in College of Arts and Sciences Building 126. Career Services provides career coaching and programming, and develops valuable relationships with employers and campus partners to provide students with many opportunities for experiential learning and career development.
