Wall of Oppression

Sponsor of Event: Undergraduate Student Government
Description: The wall is constructed from paper bricks that students have painted on; each brick displays a word or phrase the student has been called or referred to as and finds offensive or oppressive. At the end of the week, students pull down the wall to symbolize ending oppression within the campus community. At the pull down ceremony we will Interim Diversity Officer Rev. Wallace speak on moving forward to end oppression on our campus.

Description: Caribbean Day Celebration is an event that opens Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrates the food, traditions, and the cultures that permeate the Caribbean Basin. This event will be filled with music (Lukumi Bomba Plenta, Rumba, Steel Drums) and the light d'oeuvres found in the Caribbean nations.

Healthy Teens Summit Program

Description: The “Healthy Teens, Healthy Tomorrow Teen Summit Program” is a research study approved by Case Western Reserve University’s Institutional Review Board and the Principal Investigator is J. Daryl Thornton, MD, MPH who is the Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case MetroHealth’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities. In addition the teen summit focuses on health and how family history, lifestyle and diet can impact health. The Teen Summit will be at the University of Akron Student Union on October 14th

Description: Four Hispanic high school students form a robotics club. With no experience, 800 bucks, used parts, and a dream, this rag tag team goes up against the country's reigning robotics champion, MIT.
