Archival Services

Archival Services, a division of University Libraries, collects, preserves, and provides access to primary and secondary source materials that document the history of The University of Akron and the region, as well as rare books and select materials requiring special care and handling.

Materials are collected in order to support the operational needs of the institution and the teaching and research activities at the university and in the wider intellectual community. Collections are particularly strong in the history of following topics: The University of Akron, Akron and Summit County, the rubber industry, lighter-than-air flight, Ohio canals, the B-26 Marauder and the 9th Air Force, and the book and print culture.

The department, which consists of University Archives, Special Collections, and Records Management, offers reference and research assistance, bibliographic instruction, class visits/tours, and records management support to the main and branch campuses.
