Governor appoints two to Board of Trustees

03/28/2016

University of Akron (UA) Board of Trustees Chairman Jonathan T. Pavloff and President Scott L. Scarborough, Ph.D., today expressed appreciation to Governor John R. Kasich for naming two outstanding Akron-area community leaders to the UA Board of Trustees — William (Bill) A. Scala and Joseph M. Gingo. The two men, each of whom have a degree from UA, will fill two existing vacancies among the Board’s nine voting members. Both board appointments begin immediately. Scala will serve until July 1, 2024; Gingo’s term concludes July 1, 2023.

Chairman Pavloff said, “I and my fellow Board members are excited to have Bill and Joe join the Board and we are grateful to Governor Kasich for his selection of both of them. We know they will add great value to our deliberations and decisions. With their long years of service to the community and their connection to and support of the University, they will be able to provide additional perspectives that can help guide us as we strive to meet the challenges facing higher education.”

President Scarborough noted, “I’ve been able to get to know both Joe and Bill since I became president, and I admire their business successes and their commitment to advancing Akron and Northeast Ohio. They bring a great deal of wisdom from their many years of experience. I look forward to their even deeper involvement with our University.”
