April 2017 Safety Focus: SHUT THE SASH!

April’s Safety Focus is SHUT THE SASH! If you have chemical fume hoods in your lab, we are asking you to SHUT THE SASH when you are not working in the hood. Please see the attached, quick 13 slide PDF and following video link on chemical fume hood safety produced by Dartmouth College. Please take the time to learn how a chemical fume hood works to protect you! I will spend the month of April visiting labs and asking students questions about their fume hood.

Shut your sash:

  1. Every time you are finished working in the hood.
  2. Leaving for the day.
  3. Going to lunch.
  4. Working at your desk while running an experiment.
